Summer time & Lobster Season
As we settle into the heat of summer time and lobster season, many people forget about the amazing snapper spawn and back country fishing Islamorada has to offer. What I love most about the summer is that in the morning we're chasing large numbers of snook, redfish, and tarpon in the back country, then have the ability to change gears and go on a dinner hunt for tasty lobsters and snappers in the afternoon. My 22 foot pathfinder bay boat allows me the ability to fish comfortably just about every day of the year in the back country, and most days offshore depending on the conditions. On the reefs we've been consistently catching big mangrove and yellow tail snappers up to 5lbs, with a few big mutton snappers and groupers mixed in. With an early start being best, the tarpon bite has still been consistent with fish anywhere from 10-60lbs and a few big bruisers mixed in. Snook and red-fishing has been the best I've seen it in the last 5 years. We've had several trips in the last few weeks with over 50 redfish! Its exciting to see how well the fish have responded to the damage of hurricane Irma as there has been no shortage of steady action throughout the day. Fishy Business at its finest!
